What is Twitter good for?
I just received an email from someone who is asking what Twitter is good for. The gentleman who sent the email has a very successful online community and knows branding and the internet well. I’ve been amazed at how many times I’ve hear this question and I have to admit at the beginning of this summer I was wondering the same thing. Then I got on and started listening. At first I didn’t find much because I didn’t know what to listen for or who to listen to but as I began using tools and search.twitter.com and looking at topics relevent to my blogs and work I have learned what an incredible tool Twitter is.
Twitter provides the fastest information sharing platform ever invented. It is incredible for tracking whats happening at conferences. It proves a platform for communicating with customers and it is without a doubt a world leading branding platform. The best way to experience Twitter is to get on it. I think a few tools defiantly help enhance the experience. I highly recommend Tweet deck and bit.ly. There are hundreds of more tools but those are a good start.
So the most important part of the question is why is Twitter useful and the truth is the answer is Twitter isn’t useful. Not unless you take the time to understand what your marketing strategy is, how you want to execute it and what you want to communicate. Then Twitter is a tool along with other social media to help execute on that strategy.
