What is the value of a long sales letter?

According to an article written by Joel Comm in FeedFront magazine October 2008 long form sales letters just work. He quotes a study by Marketing Experiments Journal stating that the long form sales letters outperform Short copy, sometimes as much as 400%.

Joel has also had experiences where the long form sales letter had conversion rates as high as 70%. A conversion rate is taking the visitors to a site and getting them to take the desired action. Desired action could be buy, sign up for news letter, or sign up for additional information.

Additional terms related to long form sales letters include Landing pages and Squeeze pages. These are pages where you are asking your customer to take an action. The reason the long format seems to work well is because you should be answering all your customers objections in the content of the sales form.
